Manav Mehta, PhD, is an internationally recognized expert in the development and commercialization of biomaterials, with particular depth in self-assembling peptide technology. He is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Gel4Med, Inc., a Massachusetts medical device company built on that technology, and has helped bring multiple FDA-cleared and internationally marketed products to market in regenerative medicine and medical devices. At Gel4Med, he co-invented the company’s peptide platform and led it from early research through FDA 510(k) clearance, bringing self-assembling peptide products into clinical practice across the United States. His work centers on how engineered biomaterials interact with injured tissue to support repair, with a focus on soft tissue defects such as those vascular surgeons manage in limb salvage practice.
Dr. Mehta is a named inventor on multiple US and international patent applications covering self-assembling peptide technologies. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. He has published in journals including Nature Materials, Science Translational Medicine, and Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, and his work has been cited more than 4,300 times. He has served as a scientific reviewer on NIH, Department of Defense, and NSF funding panels. Gel4Med was founded at the Harvard Innovation Labs, is backed by Peter Thiel’s Breakout Labs, and has received research funding from NIH, NSF, and the Department of Defense.
